Louisiana hospitality at its finest... Oct 5, 2014

Got up before sunrise today to photograph the event on the nice pond behind my overnight site. Then coffee while I contemplated where I would stop today. I made a decision on staying the night in Iowa. Not Iowa the state but Iowa the town. A little place just off I-10 between Lake Charles and Lafayette Louisiana. Not an easy entrance to find but comfortable with nice paved sites. I noticed very few people outside of their rigs. As I walked by a corner site a small Jack Russell mix puppy comes playfully out to greet me. The couple sitting outside under a canopy apologize for the puppy and ask if I just rolled in. That is when the night began. Great local Louisiana folks and we struck a friendship immediately. Keith and Rose were so cordial and hospitable. I drank with them and I talked with them for hours. Oh... and I guess I do have an accent after all. Keith once won a gumbo cook off event and asked if I had ever had any. I had not so they insisted I eat with them. I thought... How nice and how authentic it would be to share this evening that way. So I did have "supper" with them. He loves to cook and is good at it. This area is the most authentic cajun area of all of Louisiana. We chatted about so many things. maine lobsters, coastline and I shared photos of Maine with them. We chatted about "noodling"for catfish. up to 60 pounders. Alligator catching with a treble hook and an ice pick, eating frog legs, recent hurricanes, local foods and New Orleans. What I had first thought was going to be dull stay turned into a very, very nice evening. Thanks Keith and Rose. I'm forever grateful.
