Dark ,Damp and Dingy... Sept 27, 2014

250 ft below the surface

Mammoth Cave National Park was my destination. So, I got an early start today because the drive was about two hours each way. It was a good day for it because temp rose to 84 degrees. Down under it was a cool yet comfortable 54 degrees. Never varies much throughout the year Ranger Rick said. I've never been 250 ft below the surface in a cave before so it was quite interesting, narrow, steep steps down and up again in a different exit. The tour was called Domes and Dripstones. along the way we viewed Frozen Niagara formations of stalagmites and stalictites ( yea you know the sticky up things and the handy down things)... :)  The group was large and the caves were dark so when the photo did come out bright enough there were people in it. But I wouldn't have wanted to be alone. ABSOLUTELY NO natural light down there. The ranger in front turned the lights on and the trailing ranger turned them off. Oh... by the way I was not allowed my tripod or monopod to avoid camera shake. Today they were considered weapons. I told ranger Rick I and he have more dangerous weapons than those. He was not budging!  Sturdy stainless steel stairways where needed but the passages were narrow and in some places low ceilings so its best you take the tour when your short and skinny. Tomorrow I'll be in Missouri. Another first!! Thanks for checking my blog and travels. Enjoy your evening my friends. ~ Link to Photos~
